Parent FAQ

Frequently asked questions about pediatric dentistry

When should my child first see a pediatric dentist?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first visit by your child's first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming in. Early visits help prevent problems and get your child comfortable with the dental office.
What is a pediatric dentist?
A pediatric dentist completes 2 to 3 additional years of specialized training after dental school, focused on the dental needs of infants, children, teens, and patients with special healthcare needs. Pediatric dentists are trained in child psychology, growth and development, and behavior management techniques specific to young patients.
Do you accept Healthy Kids Dental and Delta Dental?
Yes. Jackson Pediatric Dentistry accepts Healthy Kids Dental, Delta Dental, MetLife, and most major dental insurance plans. We also offer Tua Pay financing for out-of-pocket costs.
What should I do if my child knocks out a permanent tooth?
Call our office immediately at (517) 787-1022. Find the tooth, hold it by the crown (not the root), gently rinse with milk or saline if dirty, and try to re-seat it in the socket. If you cannot, store it in cold milk or in your child's cheek and come straight in. The first 60 minutes are critical for re-implantation.
Where is your office located?
We are at 3386 Spring Arbor Road, Suite 2, Jackson, MI 49203. Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm and Friday from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm.
Do you treat children with special healthcare needs?
Yes. We see kids on the autism spectrum, with sensory differences, and with medical complexity. We offer quiet-room scheduling, extended appointment windows, and sedation options when indicated.
